01A doctor-led approach to microneedling
Microneedling is more than simply passing a device over the skin. Treatment depth, technique, treatment area, skin type and the concern being treated all matter. It is delivered by a GMC-registered GP, with individual assessment, a tailored approach, a professional clinical environment, realistic expectations and clear aftercare support.
02What can microneedling do for you?
Controlled micro-injuries trigger the body's natural wound-healing response, involving processes associated with collagen production and tissue remodelling. Treatment may improve the appearance of uneven skin texture, acne scarring, fine lines, visible pores, uneven skin tone, dull-looking skin and mild changes in firmness. Microneedling is not designed to completely remove scars, pores or wrinkles. The aim is gradual improvement.
03Microneedling for acne scarring
Acne scarring can take several forms. Some scars are depressed, while other changes following acne relate primarily to pigmentation or redness. Microneedling may be appropriate for selected types of atrophic acne scarring, particularly where improving texture and supporting collagen remodelling is the objective. Not every scar responds in the same way; consultation helps determine the type and whether this treatment is appropriate.
04Treatment areas
Microneedling may be considered for the face, neck, décolletage, selected areas of acne scarring and other areas where skin texture is a concern. Your skin will be assessed before treatment.
05How microneedling works
A specialised device creates controlled microchannels within the skin. This initiates a wound-healing response and encourages the skin to remodel over time. Treatment itself is relatively quick, but the biological changes continue afterwards. Results are gradual rather than immediate.
06Your treatment journey
Consultation: Your skin, medical history, concerns and goals are assessed.
Preparation: Your skin is carefully prepared before treatment.
Treatment: The device is used at an appropriate depth for your skin and treatment area.
Aftercare: You'll receive guidance on protecting and caring for your skin.
Recovery: Redness and sensitivity are expected for a short period.
Review: Your response can be assessed and further sessions discussed where appropriate.
07Is microneedling right for you?
Microneedling may be appropriate for acne scarring, uneven skin texture, fine lines, visible pores, dullness, mild loss of firmness and overall skin quality. It may not be appropriate if you have certain active skin conditions, infections, uncontrolled acne, impaired healing or other factors increasing complication risk. Suitability is assessed before treatment.
08Safety & clinical standards
Microneedling deliberately creates controlled injury to the skin, so infection control, technique and aftercare are important. A GMC-registered GP assesses your skin and medical history, selects the treatment depth and approach and provides aftercare. Temporary redness, swelling, sensitivity and mild peeling can occur. Some patients may experience bruising or temporary pigmentation changes. Individual risks will be discussed before treatment.
09Results & expectations
Microneedling produces gradual rather than immediate results. Improvements in texture and skin quality may become more noticeable over the following weeks. A course may be recommended for acne scarring or established texture changes. Results vary according to your skin, concern and individual response. Complete removal of scars or wrinkles cannot be guaranteed.
010Is microneedling painful?
A topical anaesthetic may be used where appropriate to improve comfort. Most people experience pressure, warmth or a prickling sensation during treatment.
011How long does the redness last?
Redness is common immediately after treatment and usually settles over the following days. Recovery varies with treatment intensity and individual response.
012How many treatments will I need?
This depends on what you are treating. A course is commonly recommended for acne scarring and significant texture changes.
013Can I wear makeup after treatment?
You'll receive individual aftercare advice. Depending on treatment intensity, you may be advised to avoid makeup for a period immediately following treatment.
014Can microneedling treat acne scars?
It may improve the appearance of certain types of atrophic acne scarring. Scar type and depth influence whether treatment is appropriate.
015Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Potentially. Your treatment plan depends on your skin and the treatments being considered.
